Dr. Phillip Cooper, DVM with dogDr. Phillip Cooper, our Co-Chief of Staff, currently resides in Valparaiso, Indiana. He received an undergraduate degree from the University of Evansville and earned his DVM degree from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee University. Prior to joining the Lake Station Pet Clinic team, Dr. Cooper practiced in Idaho. His special interests include orthopedics.

Outside of work, Dr. Cooper enjoys spending time with his grandchildren and fishing.

Dr. Stephen Heckler, DVM with dogDr. Stephen Heckler, our Co-Chief of Staff, is a native East Gary resident. He attended St. Francis Catholic school, as well as St. Mary of the Lake, and then Andrean. Dr. Heckler went to Indiana University for two years and then six years at Purdue, where he received his DVM degree. He still enjoys practicing veterinary medicine and surgery, especially difficult to diagnose cases. There is hardly a day that goes by where he is not consulting with the Purdue specialists on a case.

Dr. Heckler has three main hobbies....fishing, fishing, and more fishing. He prays for his cases daily, with the goal to glorify God and not himself, and is constantly working on doing that better. Dr. Heckler also has four daughters and six grandchildren.

Dr. Jessica Clements, DVM with dogDr. Jessica Clements earned her DVM degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana College of Veterinary Medicine in 1995. Dr. Clements joined Lake Station Pet Clinic in 1999, after moving to Northwest Indiana and marrying her husband, Rick. Her special interests include dermatology, which she particularly enjoys.

Dr. Clements and her husband share their home with their five children, a westie, a Cairn Terrier, and a black cat. Their family are also active members of the St. Paul Catholic church.

Dr. Jennifer Barenie, DVM, with a canine friendDr. Jennifer Barenie grew up in Whiting and currently resides in Schereville, Indiana. She received an undergraduate degree from Purdue University Northwest and earned her DVM degree from the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to joining the Lake Station Pet Clinic team, Dr. Barenie practiced at Deer Run Animal Hospital. Her special interests include surgery.

Outside of work, Dr. Barenie enjoys playing the trombone, motorcycles, and photography. She also cares for two cats, Roxy and KitKat, a cockatiel, Muczka, and fish at home.

Dr. Nicole Mock, DVM with dogDr. Nicole Mock has been with the Lake Station Pet Clinic since 2008, where she started as a kennel technician and veterinary assistant, while completing her undergraduate studies at Purdue University in West Lafayette. She returned to our clinic as an associate veterinarian in June of 2014, after earning her DVM degree. Her special interests in dermatology and ophthalmology, but she enjoys all aspects of being a general practitioner.

Dr. Mock currently lives in her home town of Hobart, Indiana and has four rescue pets: two cats, Sadie and Dahlia, and two dogs, Scrappy and Tasha. During her time away from the clinic, she enjoys being outdoors, gardening and spending time with family.
